01 · Introduction

Letters step back. Stories step forward.

Let the story
come first.

Anyone with something to show is the hero at SSHOW. SSHOW puts that story on stage at its best.

SSHOW SEO Sans is the voice that carries the story, drawn so that small text, long passages and big titles on a presentation screen all speak in the same voice.

So the letters stand upright and step back. They stand straight, speak softly and give the story the front seat, so the reader’s eye goes straight to the story.

The one thing this typeface keeps

Good letters stay a step behind
and send the story forward.

02 · Principles

Soft, even and open letters.

The three words describe the shape of the letters, and the way SSHOW treats every story. Each attitude became a shape you can see.

Soft

Strokes end softly.

The apexes of A, V and W are cut flat, and stroke ends finish level and straight. The letters were drawn soft from the very first stroke.

SSHOW
Like the flowing S of the SSHOW mark, it speaks calmly and softly, even in big titles.

Even

The same texture wherever you read it.

From small screen text to long passages, the weight is balanced so every line keeps an even tone and rhythm.

Open

Clear even when small.

The openings of c and e and the inner spaces of a and o are wide open, so every letter keeps its own shape, even in small screen text.

03 · How it was made

Built for showing, letter by letter.

Just as SSHOW built the engine that draws its screens from scratch, it drew this typeface from the very first stroke. Here is how, in three parts.

01

One design, nine weights.

Every weight comes from a single set of design values. Three masters, Thin, Regular and Black, sit on one variable weight axis, joined in between, so the nine weights run on evenly as one family.

02

Chosen side by side.

Where opinions differed, we built real drafts and chose with them side by side. That is how the level-cut stroke ends of the S were decided.

03

Checked once more.

After choosing by eye, we hold the result with objective checks: figure widths, letter spacing and kerning, each verified one by one.

How SSHOW is made, in the letters too

Delicate in the details.
Solid underneath.
And wider still.

  1. 01Delicate in the details

The height of every stroke cut, the space between letters and the kerning of each pair were refined one by one.

  2. 02Solid underneath

Every letter stands on one system of design values, upright and built the same way.

  3. 03And wider still

Drawn so one typeface can carry small text, long passages and titles on a presentation screen.

05 · Weights

One voice, from Thin to Black.

One variable weight axis runs smoothly from 100 to 900, from a quiet voice to a loud one, as evenly as one person speaking. Pick anywhere between the nine named weights.

Drag the slider or press a weight below, and the letters above follow. The axis default is 400.

06 · Glyphs

216 characters, 270 glyphs.

07 · Details

Small decisions that keep letters upright.

Set each letter large and you can see how carefully the small places were refined, and what was chosen and what was left out.

An upright S

Every letter stands upright. The spine of the S runs calmly at about −17°.

Flat apexes

The apexes of A, V and W are cut flat.

A two-storey ass01

The default a has two storeys. Turn on ss01 for a single-storey a.

Level-cut stroke ends

The stroke ends of c, e and s all finish level and straight.

₩ € ‰

Won, euro and per mille are included, so prices and ratios share one typeface.

A tailed lss02

Turn on ss02 and the l gains a tail, telling it apart from capital I and the figure 1 at a glance.

Tabular figurestnum

Turn on tnum and figures, commas, periods and colons share one width, so columns and clocks line up.

Case-sensitive punctuationcase

Turn on case and inverted marks, hyphens, dashes, colons, middle dots and guillemets rise to sit with capitals.

A round O

O and o are drawn close to circles; the round letters give a wide, soft impression.

08 · On stage

SSHOW SEO Sans on stage.

We set it on a presentation screen, a poster, a phone, an app and figures, wherever stories will live.

A large presentation screen seen from the back of a lecture hall at dusk, with audience members watching.
Even on the big screen, the letters step back and the story stands in front.

09 · Character

Each one comes from the shapes of the letters.

  • Calm

It speaks in a low, even voice, composed even in big titles.

  • Upright

Every letter stands straight to hold up the story.

  • Clear

Open inner spaces read at a glance, even at small sizes.

  • Warm

Soft lines that speak plainly and warmly.
