Your work saves automatically, and you can undo mistakes.
Projects you open in Studio save automatically as you work. Press ⌘Z to undo a wrong edit, and keep a copy before you make big changes.
Check the save status
When ‘Saved’ shows next to the Studio button in the top bar, all your edits are saved. Your work saves automatically as you go, so you don’t need to press ⌘S.
If ‘Saving…’ stays for a long time, your connection is slow or has dropped, and some changes haven’t been sent yet. Don’t close the window until it returns to ‘Saved’. If you try to leave before then, SSHOW asks you first.
If a notice says real-time collaboration has stopped, a Save button appears where the save status was. From then on, your work doesn’t save automatically. When the button is enabled, click it or press ⌘S.
Undo and redo
-
Undo an edit
Click the left chevron button next to the project name at the top left of the editor, or press ⌘Z. This undoes your last action, and each press goes back one more step.
After the circle is deleted, pressing ⌘Z puts it back in place. Video: The selected circle is deleted with the Delete key. Pressing ⌘Z puts it back in place, and the chevron buttons at the top left appear enabled. -
Redo an edit
Click the right chevron button, or press ⌘⇧Z. What you undid comes back. If you make a new edit after undoing, there’s nothing left to redo.
Pressing ⌘⇧Z redoes the delete that was undone. Video: Pressing ⇧⌘Z redoes the undone delete, and the circle disappears again.
Undo works only while the editor is open
When you close the editor and open it again, the undo history is empty. There’s no version history to take you back to an earlier state, so keep a copy as shown below before you make big changes.
Keep a copy
-
Download a .sshow file
Click the SSHOW logo at the top left of the editor to open the Menu, and choose Save a Copy. The whole project downloads as a single .sshow file named after the project. You can also press ⌘⇧S. To open the file again, click New project in Studio, and in the What will you make? window, choose Upload .sshow file.
Choosing Save a Copy in the menu downloads a .sshow file named after the project. Video: Clicking the SSHOW logo at the top left opens the menu, and choosing Save a Copy makes the browser download a .sshow file. -
Duplicate in Studio
In the Studio list, hover over a project card, and a three-dot button appears at its top right. Click that button and choose Duplicate. An identical project appears in the same space. Right-clicking the card opens the same menu. You can also get the file with Download .sshow in this menu.
Choosing Duplicate in the card menu adds a second, identical project. Video: In the Studio list, hovering over a card shows a three-dot button. Clicking it and choosing Duplicate shows the notice Project duplicated successfully, and an identical card appears.
Local files in the desktop app
A document you open from the desktop app’s File menu with New Local Project or Open .sshow File is a file on this computer. The top bar shows a Home button and a ‘Local’ badge at the left, and the document doesn’t save automatically.
When you have changes, the Save button is enabled. Click it or press ⌘S. The first time you save, SSHOW asks for a file name and location. After that, it overwrites the same file. If you try to close the window without saving, SSHOW asks you first.
In a local document, ⌘⇧S is Save As, not Save a Copy. Choose a new name and location, and from then on SSHOW saves to that file.
In a local document, New and Open File replace the current document
In the SSHOW logo Menu, New and Open File replace the current document. If you’ve made changes, the “Replace this document?” window opens first. If you click Replace, unsaved changes are lost, and undo can’t bring them back. Click Cancel or press esc to keep the document. To start fresh or open another file, go to the File menu or the Home screen and choose New Local Project or Open .sshow File. They open in another window, so your current document stays as it is.
What’s different when you edit together, edit text, or use the Playground
When you edit together. ⌘Z undoes only your own edits. If someone else changed the same thing after you, that part isn’t undone. Edit together explains more.
While you edit text. With the cursor inside text, ⌘Z undoes what you just typed. If you press it after you finish editing with esc, all the text changes from that edit are undone at once.
In the Playground. The trial editor with a ‘Playground’ label at the top doesn’t save, even when you’re signed in. To keep what you made, open the Menu and choose Save a Copy to download a .sshow file. Then sign in to Studio and open it with New project › Upload .sshow file.
