Edit sentences and check them in Preview
To edit a sentence, click the words in its row in the list. After you edit it, try it right away in Preview, and check the log to see what ran and what was skipped.
Edit a sentence
In Interaction mode, select an object that has sentences. The scene’s sentences show when nothing is selected. If you don’t have a sentence yet, follow Your first interaction first.
-
Open a sentence
In the list in the Interactions panel, click the row of the sentence you want to change. The row turns blue, and the sentence opens in the edit column on the right. A sentence that a recipe can read, such as Go to a scene, opens in that recipe’s form. Others open as the sentence itself under the “Interaction” heading.
Clicking the row highlights it and opens the Go to a scene form on the right. Video: Clicking the On click → Go to Detail row in the Interactions panel list highlights it in blue and opens the Go to a scene form on the right. -
Swap a word
In the open row, click the word you want to change. Choose another trigger or action from the menu, and it changes right away. Clicking a word in a row that isn’t open only opens the row.
Clicking “On click” and choosing another trigger from the menu changes the sentence. Video: Clicking On click in the open row opens the trigger menu, and choosing On double click changes the sentence to On double click → Go to Detail. -
Type a value
For a value you type yourself, such as a time or an address, click its spot, type the value, and press ↩. Times are in seconds, and decimals such as 0.5 work too. Click a key spot, and “Press a key…” appears. The next key you press is recorded right away.
Clicking the 3 in “After 3s”, typing 1.5, and pressing ↩ makes it “After 1.5s”. Video: In the scene sentence After 3s → Next scene, clicking 3, typing 1.5, and pressing Enter makes it After 1.5s → Next scene. -
Add an action
Click the ⋯ More button at the end of the row and choose Add action. In the menu that opens next, choose the action to add, and it’s added to the end of the sentence. For an action with a value, such as Wait, type the value right there and press ↩.
Choosing More › Add action › Wait adds a wait to the end of the sentence. Video: Choosing Add action from the ⋯ button at the end of the row and then Wait adds Wait 1s to the end of the sentence, and pressing Enter confirms the value. -
Reorder actions
In the open row, click a word of the action you want to move and choose Move earlier or Move later. You can’t drag actions to move them. Actions run in order from left to right, and a wait delays the actions after it.
Clicking “Wait” and choosing Move earlier moves the wait in front of “Go to Detail”. Video: Clicking Wait in the open row and choosing Move earlier from the menu moves the wait in front of Go to Detail. -
Reorder sentences
Drag the two-line handle on the left of a row and drop it above or below another sentence of the same object. Sentences that run at the same time run in order from the top.
Dragging the lower sentence’s handle puts it before the upper sentence. Video: Dragging the two-line handle on the left of the lower sentence above the upper sentence swaps the order of the two sentences.
Changes in a form stay only after you click Apply
A word you change in a row is saved right away, but values you change in the form on the right are saved when you click Apply. If you press esc or select another object before you click Apply, your changes are lost. If you changed the form, click Apply first.
Check it in Preview
-
Start Preview
Click the triangle Preview button in the panel’s title bar. The button lights up blue, and the canvas responds the way it does during playback. Preview starts in the current scene and runs its “On scene enter” sentences first.
Turning on Preview and clicking the button opens the next scene. Video: Clicking the Preview button in the panel title bar lights it up blue, and clicking the button on the canvas opens the Detail scene. -
Click to test it
On the canvas, click an object that has sentences. Over anything you can click, the pointer turns into a hand. Unlike on the presentation screen, a click that no sentence takes doesn’t move to the next scene, so a missing sentence shows up right away.
-
Read the log
Look at the log column at the far right of the panel. If the panel is narrow, click the Log tab. The newest line is at the top, and each line shows the elapsed time, the object name, and the sentence that ran. A dimmed line is a sentence or action that didn’t run, with the reason. If a condition blocked it, the value at that moment shows too.
Each click adds the sentence that ran to the log, and a dimmed line shows why one was skipped and the value at that moment. Video: In Preview, clicking the button three times stacks Increase count lines in the log, with dimmed lines showing skipped (count = 1) and skipped (count = 2), and the third click moves to the Result scene. -
End Preview
Click the Preview button in the panel’s title bar again. Or press esc. You go back to the scene and selection you had when Preview started, and changed variable values go back to where they started. The log stays until you close it or start the next preview. If the cursor is in the edit column or an input field, esc doesn’t end Preview.
See every sentence in the scene
Click the Scene tab in the panel’s title bar to see all the sentences of this scene and of the objects in it. The scene’s sentences come first, and each object’s sentences are grouped under its name. Click a name to select that object.
Below them, “Ways in” collects the sentences in other scenes that go to this scene by choosing it. Click a row to go to the scene and object that have that sentence. Moves that don’t choose a scene, such as Next scene, Previous scene, and Back, don’t show here.
Type in the search field in the title bar, and only the rows whose sentence or object name contains that text stay.
Small ways to handle sentences
To turn one off for now, disable it. Choose Disable in the ⋯ menu, and the sentence dims and doesn’t run. Choose Enable in the same menu to bring it back.
Sentences that start the same way both run. Duplicate a sentence with no conditions, and a sentence with the same trigger appears right below it with the note “An interaction above starts the same way, and both run”. To make it run at a different time, change the duplicate’s trigger.
If you can’t see Make your own. After a preview, the panel gets “Edit” and “Log” tabs and the edit column gets shorter, so Make your own below the recipes can be hidden. Close the log with the × Close button at the end of the tab row, or drag the top edge of the panel to make it taller.
