Warnings tell you what the sentence alone doesn’t show.

The Interactions panel adds a warning in dim text under a sentence. This page gathers every warning, plus the notices that appear in recipe forms and the preview log. Find the wording you see on screen, and check what it means and what to do.

ListIntermediateAbout 6 minInteraction mode

Where warnings appear

Warnings show in the Interactions panel at the bottom of the screen in Interaction mode (⇧I). They appear in small, dim text right under a sentence in the list, and one sentence can have several lines. When you click a row and the sentence itself opens in the editing column on the right instead of a recipe form, the same warnings show under it too.

Click the Scene tab in the panel’s title bar to see every sentence written in this scene, for the scene and for each object. Use it to scan all the warnings in one scene at once.

Warnings don’t block saving or playing. A sentence runs exactly as written, and a warning points out where the result may not be what you expect. That’s why each entry covers both when to fix it and when to leave it. Where an entry name has …, the screen shows the actual name of a scene, object, animation, or state, or a request address.

Warnings fall into four groups by cause: Pointer and clicks · Animations and states · Video and audio · Sentences and requests. Notices that aren’t warnings are in Notices in recipe forms and the panel and Skips in the preview log.

If sentence, trigger, and action are new words to you, read How interactions work first.

Warning lineApplying Effect on hover to a rectangle adds a touch screen warning under the new sentence in the list. Video: Clicking Apply in the Effect on hover form adds a new sentence to the list in the Interactions panel, with a dim line under it saying touch screens do not run it.

Pointer and clicks

Touch screens do not run this interaction, but the remote laser does

Appears on While hovering sentences. A screen you tap with a finger has no pointer to hover, so this sentence doesn’t run when someone uses a phone or tablet by touch. During a presentation, it runs when the laser dot of the Phone remote stays over the object. Sentences made with the Effect on hover and Button feedback recipes get this warning too.

  • What to doIf viewers on phones need to see it too, write one more On click sentence that plays a different animation. Applying the Effect on click recipe makes a new animation whose name doesn’t clash. If the new sentence plays the same animation, this warning changes to “Touch screens and the remote laser…”, and the laser doesn’t run it either.
  • When to leave itIf the effect is meant for the mouse and the laser, there’s nothing to fix.

Touch screens and the remote laser do not run this interaction

Appears on On pointer enter and On pointer leave sentences, and on While hovering sentences the laser can’t run. So that the laser only points and never changes the screen, it runs only sentences where everything goes back once the pointer leaves. With a mouse, these sentences run as usual.

  • To use the laser tooKeep the trigger as While hovering, and limit the actions to playing animations and Wait. That animation must not be a state, must have no stops and no Autoplay, and must not change the scene background. It also won’t run with the laser if another sentence plays the same animation or waits for it to end.
  • Related warningsIf the same sentence also has “…it is not held” or “No animation named … on …”, fix that first. If this appeared after you copied an object with an effect, see “… does not move …”.
  • When to leave itIf the effect is only needed when viewing with a mouse, there’s nothing to fix.

A click here waits for the second one instead of advancing

Appears on an On double click sentence written on the scene. In this scene, a single click anywhere waits for a second click, so clicking doesn’t go to the next scene on the presentation screen or through a play link. The keyboard and the Next button on the phone remote still advance.

  • What to doIf clicks need to advance too, write the same double-click sentence on an object, and delete the scene’s sentence: click the ⋯ More button at the end of its row and choose Delete. While the scene’s sentence remains, so do the warning and the blocked click. A sentence on an object waits for a second click only when that object is clicked.
  • When to leave itIf you advance this scene only with the keyboard or the remote, there’s nothing to fix.

Animations and states

An animation that a sentence plays is stored in two places. Its name and length live on the frame that contains the object: on the object itself if it’s a frame, or on the scene if it isn’t in any frame. How the object moves in that animation lives in the object’s keyframes. States exist only on frames. Moving an object into or out of a frame, or copying it, breaks this link, and the warnings below appear. Frame clocks explains how frames hold animations.

No animation named … on …

The animation the sentence plays, stops, or waits for isn’t on the frame or scene named in the warning. As it is, nothing plays. This often happens when you move an object with a recipe into or out of a frame.

  • Recipe sentenceClick the ⋯ More button at the end of the row, choose Delete, and apply the same recipe again. A new animation such as “Grow 2” is made where the object is now, and the warning goes away. A row with this warning opens as a sentence, not a recipe form, when you click it.
  • Your own sentenceMove the object back into or out of the frame, to where it was before. A frame’s animation moves only the objects inside that frame. So for an object taken out of a frame, choosing that frame’s animation under Other animations only clears the warning, and the object still doesn’t move.
No animation named … on …Deleting the sentence of a rectangle taken out of its frame and applying Effect on hover again adds a sentence that plays “Grow 2”, with only the laser line under it. Video: After the sentence of a rectangle taken out of its frame is deleted, clicking Apply in the Effect on hover form adds a sentence that plays Grow 2, with only the one laser line under it.

No state named … on …

The state that a “Set state …” action or an “if in …” state condition points to isn’t on the frame or scene named in the warning. Scenes don’t have states. As it is, nothing changes to that state, and the condition is never met. This happens when you move an object out of the frame that has the state.

  • What to doIn the open row, click the state name and choose a state that exists from the menu. Other frames’ states are under Other animations for an action, and under Other states for a condition.

… does not move …

The sentence plays an animation that has no keyframes of this object’s own. When it plays, only other objects with keyframes move, and this object stays put. It appears on the copy’s sentence when you copy or duplicate an object with an effect recipe (Effect on click · Effect on hover · Button feedback · Correct answer · Wrong answer). For a sentence that runs while hovering, the touch screen warning on both the original and the copy also changes to “Touch screens and the remote laser…”.

  • What to doOn each copy row with the warning, click the ⋯ More button at the end and choose Delete. Button feedback makes two sentences, so delete both. Then apply the same recipe again. The copy gets its own animation, such as “Grow 2”, and the warning goes away.
  • Next timeFor a button you’ll use many times, make it a frame first, then apply the recipe. A frame takes its animations along when you copy it.
  • When to leave itIf the sentence is meant to move other objects, there’s nothing to fix. The Open a modal button in the note below is an example.
… does not move …Hovering over the copy leaves the copy as it is and makes the original grow. Video: In preview, hovering over the copied rectangle leaves the copy as it is, while the original rectangle next to it grows, then returns when the pointer moves away.

… is a state — it stays after the hover or press ends

A While hovering or While pressing sentence moves a frame to a state. A state stays until something moves the frame to another state, so it doesn’t go back when the pointer moves away or the press ends.

  • What to doIf the look should go back when the pointer leaves, play an animation instead of a state. The Effect on hover and Button feedback recipes work that way.
  • When to leave itIf the changed look should stay, there’s nothing to fix. Buttons that switch between states are in Make buttons with frame states.

… plays through and resets — it is not held

An animation played by a While hovering or While pressing sentence doesn’t hold its end state. Even while the pointer stays, it plays through and then goes back to how it looked before. The editor’s menus add holding to such sentences automatically, so this warning appears only on sentences written outside the menus. Sentences written by the AI Assistant, a connected AI app, or a plugin are examples.

  • What to doIn the open row, click the animation name, and choose the same animation’s checked “Play …” item from the menu again. The sentence changes to hold the end state, and the warning goes away.
… plays through and resets — it is not heldChoosing the checked “Play Grow” again turns the two warning lines into the single line “…but the remote laser does”. Video: In the open row, clicking Grow and choosing the checked Play Grow again removes the warning line about not being held, leaving only the one laser line.

An Open a modal button still opens the modal, even with “does not move”

When you apply Open a modal to a button outside a frame, a warning like “open does not move Rectangle 1” appears under the button’s sentence. The open animation moves the modal frame and its backdrop, not the button, so the modal still opens and closes. Don’t delete or change the sentence to get rid of the warning. Leave it as it is.

Video and audio

Media actions and media triggers work only with video and audio that have Sync to Timeline turned off. Only those clips appear in the menus too.

… follows the timeline — the clock drives it

The video or audio the sentence works with has Sync to Timeline turned on. The scene’s timeline plays a synced clip, so this sentence’s play, pause, and seek are skipped, and “When … ends” and “When … reaches …s” triggers don’t fire either. This happens when you turn on sync after making the sentence.

  • What to doSelect the clip, and turn off Sync to Timeline under Playback in the Video or Audio panel on the right.
  • If you need syncLet the timeline play the clip, and delete this sentence. Media on the timeline explains how to fit media to the timeline.
… follows the timeline — the clock drives itTurning off Sync to Timeline in the Video panel clears the warning under the sentence. Video: Turning off Sync to Timeline in the Video panel on the right removes the follows-the-timeline warning under the sentence in the Interactions panel.

… is not a video or audio

The object a media action or media trigger points to isn’t a video or audio. As it is, nothing happens. An action is skipped in the log with “Media not found”, and a trigger leaves nothing in the log at all. Menus list only video and audio, so this warning also appears only on sentences written outside the menus, such as by the AI Assistant.

  • What to doIn the open row, click that name and choose a clip under Other media. If you don’t need a clip, delete an action with Remove action. For a trigger, choose a different trigger, or delete the sentence: click the ⋯ More button at the end of the row and choose Delete.

Sentences and requests

An interaction above starts the same way, and both run

An object or scene has two or more sentences with the same trigger and no condition. Instead of picking one, all of them run from the top, and this line appears on the lower sentence. It happens when you Duplicate a sentence, or apply two recipes to one object, such as Effect on click and Go to a scene.

  • One after anotherTo show the effect and then move on, merge them into one sentence. In the effect sentence, use More › Add action to add Wait, then Add action once more to add the scene to go to. Then delete the sentence that goes to the scene. Actions run in the order they’re written.
  • Run only oneGive the two sentences different conditions. The on/off button in Make buttons with frame states is an example.
  • When to leave itIf both should run at once, there’s nothing to fix.

Request headers are visible to every viewer

A Fetch action has headers. Headers are saved in the document as they are, and people watching through a play link receive this document too, so anyone can read them. “API keys in this document are visible to every viewer” in the Request panel means the same thing. See Requests and variables for details.

  • What to doPut only keys that are safe to make public in headers.

Requests go to …

This is a notice, not a warning. At the bottom of the list in the Scene tab, it gathers the addresses that the requests in every scene of this project go to. Addresses of requests added by people editing with you show here too.

Notices in recipe forms and the panel

When a field a recipe form needs is empty, a notice appears in the “This is what happens” spot below the form, and you can’t click Apply. Fill in the field, and the notice turns into the sentence and you can click Apply.

Pick a scene

Shows in the Go to a scene · Auto advance · Empty click goes to a scene · Count clicks forms when the scene you chose was deleted and there’s nowhere to go. Choose a scene again in “Which scene?”.

Enter the seconds

Shows when the “Seconds after the scene starts” field in the Auto advance form is empty. Type a number of seconds, 0 or more. Decimals such as 0.5 work too.

Enter the secondsClearing the field shows “Enter the seconds” and dims Apply, and typing 3 changes it to “After 3s → Next scene”. Video: Clearing the seconds field in the Auto advance form shows the notice “Enter the seconds” and dims Apply. Typing 3 shows the sentence “After 3s → Next scene” and turns Apply back on.

Enter a number

Shows in the Count clicks form when “Go to a scene when it reaches” is on and its field is empty. Type a number, 0 or more.

Make a frame first

Shows in the Open a modal or Tab switch form when this scene has no frame to choose. The selected object itself can’t be chosen. First make the content to open or show into a frame, then select the button again and choose the recipe.

Select one object to edit its interactions

Shows in the list and the editing column when two or more objects are selected. A sentence is written on one object or on the scene, so select just one. With nothing selected, the scene’s sentences show.

Skips in the preview log

Turn on the triangle-shaped Preview button in the panel’s title bar, and the sentences that run pile up in the log column at the right end of the panel. If the panel is narrow, click the Log tab. A sentence or action that didn’t run stays as a dim line with “skipped (reason)” at the end. If a line is long and its end is cut off, hover over it. The whole line appears.

The table below lists what each reason in the parentheses means and what to do. Edit and preview explains how to read the log, and Requests and variables covers why a request failed.

SkippedIn preview, clicking a rectangle with a “Back” sentence adds a “skipped (Nothing to go back to)” line to the log. Video: In preview, clicking a rectangle with a Back sentence leaves the screen as it is, and a dim line ending in skipped (Nothing to go back to) appears at the top of the log.
