SSHOW is an editor for making screens that move.

Design scenes, add motion between them, and play them to show your work. Presentations, short videos, and clickable screens all come from the same editor.

ConceptBeginnerAbout 3 min

Presentation screenAs playback moves back and forth between two scenes with a transition on, the photo, circle, and title glide between their places in each scene. Video: Clicking the presentation screen makes the photo, pink circle, and AFTER HOURS title glide together to their places and sizes in the next scene. Pressing the Left arrow key brings them back to where they started.
  1. Scenes

A scene is like a single slide. A project is a series of scenes, and when you play it, they advance in that order. Add, duplicate, and drag to reorder scenes in the Scenes list at the top left. A project has one scene size, so changing it in one scene changes every scene.

Clicking the duplicate button in the Scenes list adds a copy of the scene, and the circle is moved in the new one. Video: The Duplicate button in the Scenes list copies the scene. In the new scene, the circle is moved to the right and made bigger by dragging a corner.
  2. Objects

Shapes, text, images, video, audio, and tables that you place on a scene are all objects. Choose a tool, such as Rectangle, from the toolbar at the top center and draw on the scene. For images, video, and audio, choose the tool and then pick a file. Change the selected object’s color and size in the right panel. A scene’s objects stack up as layers in the Objects list at the bottom left.

Choosing Rectangle in the toolbar and dragging on the scene draws a rectangle. Video: Choosing the Rectangle tool in the toolbar and dragging on the scene draws a rectangle.
  3. Transitions

A transition is the motion from one scene to the next. When the scene you’re leaving has its transition on, objects that have the same name in both scenes move smoothly from one to the other. You don’t need keyframes, which record values at points in time. Turn on transitions in the Motion panel, which opens from the curve-shaped button at the top right: choose Easing or Spring, then click Apply.

The curve-shaped button opens the Motion panel, where Easing is clicked, then Apply. Video: Clicking the curve-shaped button at the top right opens the Motion - Transition panel. Clicking Easing shows a curve, and then Apply is clicked.
  4. Timeline

Use the timeline to make things move over time within one scene. Switch to Animation mode with the mode button at the top left or Tab. The Objects list spreads out along the bottom of the screen and becomes the Timeline. When you change an object in this mode, the value is recorded at that point on the timeline. Each value recorded this way is a keyframe. The three edit modes explains the modes, and Two ways to make things move explains how this differs from transitions.

Pressing Tab spreads the Objects list out along the bottom, where it becomes the timeline. Video: Pressing Tab spreads the Objects list across the bottom of the screen into the timeline, and clicking the Ellipse 1 row selects the circle. Pressing Shift+Tab returns to Design mode.
  5. Interactions

Interactions make things respond when someone clicks, hovers, or presses a key. Switch to Interaction mode with the same mode button or ⇧I. Connect a cue such as a click (a trigger) to something to do (an action), or choose a ready-made recipe. Your interactions work the same way on the presentation screen and through shared links.

Pressing ⇧I docks the Interactions panel at the bottom of the screen. Video: With the rectangle selected, pressing Shift+I docks the Interactions panel next to the Objects list, with “What should it do?” and recipes on the right. Pressing it again returns to Design mode.
Scenes Clicking the duplicate button in the Scenes list adds a copy of the scene, and the circle is moved in the new one. Video: The Duplicate button in the Scenes list copies the scene. In the new scene, the circle is moved to the right and made bigger by dragging a corner.

Scenes cut instantly until you turn on a transition

Scenes start out with no transition. So if you only duplicate a scene and move objects, they appear in their new places instantly when you play. To make them move smoothly, open the earlier scene, choose Easing or Spring in the Motion panel, and click Apply.

When you duplicate a scene that has a transition on, the new scene gets the same transition. To follow along from start to finish, see Your first transition.

Present, share, and export

When you’re done, play it. Click the triangle-shaped Present from this scene button at the top right, or press F5 to play from the beginning. Each click on the screen moves to the next scene. Press esc to return to editing. For details, see Present.

To show your work to people, send them a link. New projects start out private. Click Share in the bar at the top of the editor, choose who can view, and click Save Changes. Your choice takes effect only when you save, and saving closes the window. Then click Share again and click Copy Link. Several people can also edit the same project at the same time. For details, see Share with a link and Edit together.

If you need a file, use Export. You can export to images, video, GIF, PDF, PPT, SVG, Lottie, and HTML.

How to read this guide

If you’re new, read this chapter in order. Open a project in Create your first project, learn where things are on screen in Tour the editor, and make something from start to finish in Your first piece in 5 minutes.

After that, pick the chapter that fits what you want to do. Unfamiliar words are collected in the Glossary, and keys in All shortcuts.
